DescriptionLocated in the Loire valley, the Saumur-Champigny appellation specialises in red wines made from Cabernet Franc. Thierry Germain came to the region from Bordeaux in 1991 and quickly became a leader in terms of quality. His low-yielding vines are worked according to biodynamic principles and although the top cuvees see some oak the intensity of flavour in the fruit ensures that wood never dominates.The 2012 Saumur Blanc L’Insolite has a straw yellow color and offers a rich and tropical flavored nose indicating very clear aromas of blood orange, mandarin, pink grapefruit, ripe pears and flint stones. This is a pure, fresh, piquant and refreshing wine, very straightforward and quite salty in the finish. Good length. Wine Advocate 89 (2012)
